Aldo Novarese was one of the most prolific type designers ever, drawing more than 100 typefaces over his 30+ years long career. June 29 was his centenary and we are working to reintroduce his work in the contemporary discussion about typography and visual culture, by reissuing his most representative editorial project. Alfa-Beta reviews the evolution of writing systems and typefaces from their advent up to the present day. The entire book is dotted with intriguing tables charting the development of calligraphic styles and typographical characters, often selected from Novarese’s own designs.
A Kickstarter campaign was recently launched for the reissue of Alfa-Beta, Aldo Novarese’s 1964 masterpiece book, for the first time translated in English.
